In the summer of 2016 Nicky, chasing new adventures, moved from Cheltenham to the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland. Previously she had lived in Florida for many years, where she honed her craft in bird photography.

"The challenge for me is to manipulate light from a fresh and unexpected perspective using just my imagination and my chosen tool - the camera. There is always another way of looking at things; it depends on how you choose to see the world.

From the hustle and bustle of communal feeding to the peace and quiet of nap time, I try to capture the essence of the birds that I encounter. I prefer to find sympathetic backdrops such as water and sky, and high-key light is what I love best. Without any distracting elements the birds become the stars of the show. Their lives are inextricably linked to the life of the tides, the weather and to human behaviour and they are many things to me; from the elegant egrets to the tiniest sandpipers, they can be feisty, sweet, majestic, funny, always beautiful and always a joy to be around.”

Since moving to the Orkney Islands the rugged and wild landscape has inspired Nicky to look further into the mysterious history and feel of the place. She has given herself over to the flow and movement in the combination of wind and flowers, producing stunning results.

Nicki prints on acid-free Permajet Fine Art Photographic paper and limits each image to an edition of 25. Her work hangs in private collections all over the UK, Spain, the USA and Brazil.
