INDIA | Women, Water, Life is an exhibition of original oil paintings, screenprints and etchings by Natasha Kumar. It is both a retrospective of the Indian women in Natasha's work over the last decade, and the ultimate expression of her artistic identity to date. This comprehensive collection will demonstrate Natasha’s unique style and versatility, her use of vibrant colours and skill in creating a narrative. Each piece carefully capturing how water dictates the rhythm of life for women in rural India, a stream that flows through almost every activity they undertake.
Natasha’s journey with women of India began as observations of women going about various tasks, private or public. They became meditations on the roles available to women in India, ultimately evolving into a tale of an Indian everywoman's journey to empowerment.
India is Natasha’s artistic passion and inspiration; Kashmiri on her father’s side, English on her mother's, the sub-continent is in her genes. It emerges as a riotous collision of colour and character, palaces and people, street life secular and the spiritual. The contemporary Indian everyday, with not a Taj Mahal in sight.
