We are delighted to announce dates for our annual exhibition of original works by David Foster, renowned "Nail Artist". There cannot be many artists in the world who create works of art with a hammer and nails. If there are, David Foster must be one of the finest. Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Steve McQueen, David Bowie and many others have all been subjected to this ultra-tactile form of art. This is a must-see and an opportunity to meet the artist and talk about his remarkable process of creating images out of nails.
Exhibition dates: Friday 27th July - Saturday 18th August
Private View: Thursday 26th July 6-8pm
If you would like to join us for the Private View please contact the gallery.
Following a career in architecture and a love of technical drawing, David experimented in art using just an ink pen, stippling to create shadow and light with dots.
“I have always been fascinated with how little information the brain needs to interpret a picture, and love the simplicity of a picture made up from just dots”.
What began with a pen eventually evolved into a hammer and nails. David now uses many thousands of tiny nails that enable the viewer to see and interpret the work more closely and in detail. He currently has over half a million nails of different sizes in his studio waiting to be ‘nailed’.
