David is now based in Bath, having studied at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art and graduating with an MA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1968. Following, he moved to New Zealand and lectured in Art History at the University of Auckland from 1969 – 1973. Returning to the UK, he tutored Art History at the Open University from 1976 – 1983.
David’s skills as an artist extend beyond painting in watercolour, he is also an accomplished print-maker, oil painter and sculptor, although he describes his sculpting as an occasional preoccupation, it does demonstrate his versatility as an artist of all mediums, both two dimensionally and three dimensionally.
In recent years his work has taken a minimalist direction, geometry providing the initial framework and the ingredients of painting being reduced to just a few. He uses the repetition of straights lines and the seductive qualities of watercolour in myriad combinations, to produce engaging and contemplative images; the possibilities are endless.
David has had numerous exhibitions over the years in Auckland, Edinburgh, Bath, Cumbria, York, Poland, Bulgaria and the USA.
